The preferred version on vinyl of Pet Sounds is Steve's DCC LP (very expensive). There is a later Capitol green label reissue pressing (SN-16155) that gets decent praise. As far as I know, neither have been "futzed" with on EQ. There is a single LP Brother/Reprise version (MS 2197) that will cost you an arm, a leg and an eye. It is somewhat pricey in really good condition. There is a 2LP set (Brother/Reprise 2MS 2083) called Carl and the Passions "So Tough" doubled with "Pet Sounds" that gets very high praise around here. I think I can tell you specifically that Pet Sounds on the original black rainbow Capitol mono (any) pressing does not get high marks around here for sound quality (even though I don't have a copy myself - everything I have is on CD).
